Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? is a Latin phrase meaning “Who watches the watchmen?” An extremely important question.
In reference to freedom of the press, the Embassy of the United States in Japan states, “In drafting the amendment, America's Founding Fathers affirmed the fundamental right of citizens to be informed about all sides of an issue without governmental interference” (http://aboutusa.japan.usembassy.gov/e/jusa-media-freedom.html).
The questions then become: Does the press/media inform about all sides of an issue? What happens when the media interferes with the government (i.e., attempts to convince the public to create a government according to their one-sided view)? If our founding fathers created a free press so they could be the watchmen over the government, then ...
Who watches the watchmen?
